for surf and piers i would fish hermosa which is quite close from santa monica. hermosa is my only surf fishing spot. i've caught and seen people catch many types differnt kind of fish by the end of hermosa pier. i was told by a fisheman that there are rocks suroundng the the end of the pier which holds a lot of fish.
