Hey Guys, Anyone here thought of using a GPS(Global Positioning System) to keep track of your surf fishing hot spots? Where I fish, most of the holes stay intact except after a very big storm, but there aren't many landmarks that are close to shore. Makes it hard to find "the Hot spot" again, especially at high tide when deeper water makes reading the surf is a bit tougher.
For me, it's been very productive reconnaissance to spot structure and holes at low tide. When fishing with lures and covering a lot of shoreline and where I know the underwater terrain, I can cast into the good deeper areas and skip the shallow areas. By the way, where I fish the productive deeper areas consist of about 25% of the shoreline. That means if I can skip the non-productive 75% of the shoreline, I'll catch a lot more fish.
What I'm getting at is, has anyone looked into using a hand held GPS to find and keep track of their hot spots? Is it really practical or too much bother? With the prices of handheld GPS units way down, it might be a good time to invest in one.
