went down to Encinitas with my dad and got together with my uncle and cousin at my grandmoms beach house. we fished off Leucadia from about 10 till 3. it was my first time grubbing for perch but it defenitly wont be my last. i was throwing 2in pumpkin seed grubs rigged carolina style with a 3/4 ounce and smelly jelly. my first cast got a nibble and my second cast resulted in my first perch from a grub. they werent big perch but still fun to catch. i tried to spot holes and was some what succesful. i would cast there and get a few hits. my dad doesnt fish much so u rigged up a high low for him. it was pretty funny cause i had one pole casted out with a high low and a perch hit my pole and after he ate my bait he still went for my dads. we both reeled in one perch with two hooks in his nouth, now thats a hungry perch. my uncle caught a sand bass on squid also, i would have never guessed we would get a sandy from shore. then again it must not be all that rare since we were about 300 yrds from a jetty. i see what everyone means by dont cast far. i was reeling in my grub when in about a 1 or 2 feet of water i saw a perch follow my grub and nibble at it. i learned pretty fast that i didnt have to get soaked to get the perch (see pic above). i also caught a batray on cut squid. fought really well, it was my first bat ray although not that big. to sum it up had a great first day catching perch on the grub.
