#9754, "Outer Limits rpt. 2-day 5/16-5/18"

I went fishing on a 2 day trip on the Outer Limits out of Seaforth Landing 5/16-5/18. This is the second time I’ve been out on this boat on a multi-day trip.

Spent the first day fishing about 30 miles south of Ensenada fishing the coast. The plan was to fish the boiler rocks and kelp for the big calico bass. It was a beautiful piece of coast line, but unfortunately there had been a big drop in the water temp. in the previous week. The boat eeked out a few fish on a couple of stops. Tried fishing a sandy beach for wsb but nobody was home and the swells were getting a little big for fishing that far inshore. Spent the rest of the afternoon fishing off the coast for rockfish. We picked up a lot of quality rockfish on a few stops. I picked up two nice reds at about 6lb. plus and the largest bocaccio I’ve ever caught. My buddy picked up a nice legal ling and a couple of quality rockfish in the 5 lb. class.

Day 2 we met up with everyone else fishing for the yellowtail south of the Coronados. There must have been well over 100 boats in that area. The boat got 18 yellowtail as a whole, I didn’t get one but my friend caught a nice 20lb.’er. From what I heard, the counts weren't great on the YT on Sunday.

Spent the end of the afternoon fishing over a wreck in 340 feet of water. Tough fishing that deep but the fish coming up were some quality rockfish. I caught a legal ling and my bro caught his second legal of the trip. Did several drifts over this structure and managed some really nice giant bocaccio/salmon grouper.

The yellowtail and bass fishing didn’t end up to be what we wanted, but had some really good rockfishing and the trip was fun because we had a limited load group of some friendly cooperative anglers. This is a great boat for a 2 day trip. The skipper really runs a class act and has a reliable hard working crew who were always around to help. They even took digital pictures on the trip and printed them out on the boat for passengers to take home with them – a nice touch. This was one of several limited load trips (19 anglers) they will be running prior to the albacore bite. Might be some really good fishing once the water warms up in the areas we fished. This is the second time I’ve ridden this boat and had pretty good trips. Will try and make a 2 day in October.

Ended up getting a hotel room and spending Sunday night in San Diego because the I-5 was backed up for several hours from a accident fire and fuel spill.

Oh yeah, free parking at Seaforth too.
