Finally decided to start a fishing journal. So, from now on my reorts will probably look like this one....

S.D. Bay, Shelter Island

Launch and Return: 6:30-11:30am

Totals: 13 legals (spotties), 7 shorts (one was a sandie), 1 short sculpin

Plastics: dropshotted reepers, jerk baits, zipper worms, and grubs; all 3-4"
Colors: green pearl and pink pearl w/ misc. flakes, light green pearl w/ blue and silver hologram flake, watermeolon red and gold flake

Spinnerbaits: 3/8oz. Chart. w/ small nickel C-blade and large W-blade. plastics above for trailers. Caught 4 legals at end and a few shorts.

Crankbaits: tried Mort's, deep diving, firetiger. lost one smallish.

Scent: Smelly Jelly Pro, Salty? Crawfish used irregularly.

Conditions: Air was cold to cool with a brisk wind off and on out of west/northwest. Got really bad around the time my bite died. Water was down, maybe 59º. Current was smoking. Best fishing was once current slowed to reasonable speed, and in eddy's. Best fish came from 12-25', but most came from 4-18'.

Special Comments: Fished (and met for first time) Rob S. and his fiend Allen. Hope to join them again soon. Unfortunately, they had to leave when I finally found fish (and/or bite turned on). I had only the sculpin until this point. 9 of my legals and most of my shorts were caught between about 8:30 (whenever R. and A. were loading up) and 10:00. Rest (accept sculpin) were caught between 10:00 and 11:30.

Lot's of bait in the area I did well, wind kicked up and bait I think was pushed off of shelf, scattering them.

The best part of the morning (beside finally getting some fish) was that I put a deposit down on a used Cabo. Thanks Allen.

Areas fished: deeper water off launch down to Bahia Shoal. Worked inside back to launch area.
