Sorry for the late report, first time I've been in front of a computer.
Capt. Ron & I were finally able to put a day aside to help good friend D ick take out his beautiful 43' Riviera. He's an older gentleman that suffered a stroke a couple years ago & has been working his way back. D ick had his 12 yr old grandson, Josh in town so Ron brought his son Charlie along as well. They planned a gentlemans 9 AM departure so I started shopping for some morning action. Vince (Red Drum) told me Joe Kockrak (Triggerman) was heading down my way so I gave him a call. Joe was nice enough to not only invite me but offer to drop me back off at the dock @ 7:30 AM to make my other ride.
Met up with Joe & his neighbor at 3AM in the SS parking lot. I slapped the gear together so by the time we reached our first spot the nets were ready to go down. We hit a number of areas with nothing to show after 1.5 hrs. finally we started to pick at 'em finishing up with 10 legals with 2 around 8 lbs. & a healthy 3+ lb. average. 3 shorts, 2 croakers & a bat ray around 30 lbs. The last double came well after sunrise? Did a bit of but fishing for nothing & showing Joe some halibut spots before he dropped me back at my truck.
Headed over to Ron's place, picked up him & Charlie before heading to Dicks place right in front of the "Lady Lu's" slip. By the time we fueled/baited up & cleared the harbor I had all the rigs set up for some Catalina rockfishing. That gave me the opportunity to stretch out in the salon, next thing I knew we were rounding the backside of Catalina, all recharged. We pulled up to the #'s & weren't disappointed!
