Hi,
I'm new to these forums but I've been lurking for about a week now. I've been freshwater fishing since I was a kid, but not avidly. Sort of a once or twice a year thing. Anyway, I recently decided I want to fish more frequently and since freshwater fishing is less accessible in this part of SoCal than saltwater, and since I live near the beach, I thought I'd learn to do some saltwater fishing.
So, I've already got some gear, but I'm not sure where to go. I'd prefer to stay within a few miles of home (Encinitas) for the most part so I can fish after work, so say from Solana Beach up to Oceanside. I've seen people surf fishing a bit when I'm surfing, but I never really paid attention when or where. I've also seen people fishing in a couple of the lagoons, but I don't really know what they're fishing for or with what. Seen people in kayaks, canoes, and tubes, some from the shore.
To make a long post short, I was hoping I could get 4 or 5 decent spots along with what types of fish I might catch and what techniques work best in those locations. That's probably asking a lot, but any information you'd be willing to share would be appreciated. I like to eat the fish I catch if that makes a difference.
Also, where is a good place to find the limits and regulations for saltwater fishing in California? I tried the Dept of Fish & Game, but it was a little hard to track down those things.
Lastly, are there any good tackle shops in north county?
Thanks! Paul
