#14514, "Team Red Cup or Tin Rum at the Holiday Bay Classic"

Just a quick rundown on our day at the Classic. I teamed up with Keith Michaels (Mr. Tin Cup) for this one. It turned out to be a good move on my part. Keith has plenty of spotty experience and since neither of us had ever fished Mission Bay, we need all the help we could get. We both did a bit of on line prefishing, lurking on SD boards, goggle earth checking maps and tides. We got a bit of intel from one of Keith’s fellow Quantum pro staffers.

Keith’s plan was to flip docks and so that what we concentrated on. We found fish right away but it was a scratch bite. We pulled some dock fish and some weed line fish but never found a steady bite. We put a couple of legals in the tank early. I was tossin the 3 inch Hammer in Halloween and Keith was using the 4 inch Hammer in Strawberry. At one point we were working down a good dock and I pulled several fish off it. As we got down to the end, there was a spot, just the kind of spot you know there is a good fish in. As we got close I think we were both trying to get there first. Keith won. He gets bit on the sink and is bent hard. I raced for the net and put what would be the big fish for the whole tournament in the tank.

We had 3 legals in the tank as well as the big boy in the first couple of hours. We moved around a bit a picked at them for a few more shorts and then put number 5 in the tank. We had a few more non cullers and then with less then an hour left I put a better then average in the boat which culled out a barely legal. It was enough to put us in the money in fifth place. Props to Keith for the big fish that went a solid 2.57 pounds. All in all it was a fun day and well run tournament.

Bryan
