It was a bit more picky than usual and that was really reflected on us flyfisher folk. But for bait, it was still a great day...
We chum and often flyline a live bait on our baitcasters when trying to raise fish or trying to see if they were there...I got bit at every likely spot in the harbor yesterday...The bubble, the big wall (all along it), the bait reciever, the shoals, the yacth club, the back half of the main channel, and the kelp near the mouth...
Honestly speaking, I think I could have caught over 20 if I had chose to flyline live baits...Just doing it intemittently I still landed 8 fish...Sometimes you had to soak a bait, but I can honestly say I got picked up on at least 3 out of 5 baits I tossed...
We ended up with 3-4 on the fly, and lots more on bait...Still a great day regardles and even better when you realize it is mid January...
Chum some, fly line a bait, and move if you don't get a sign...They are scattered throughout the harbor and very thick at times...
