As my dad and I were launching this morning, we were very cautious about the wind. It was blowing pretty hard and if it wasn't for the patchy clouds that indicated the winds were dieing down we wouldn't have launched. So we get out to the reef in 55 feet of water and my dad makes his dive at about 7. While Im fishing I catch 3 mantis shrimp and a sandy on the plastic. My dad comes up with his limit of bugs to 4 pounds and jumps in again in search of 'buts. During that period I hook a sculpin, 2 short flatties and of course a legal flattie hits my swimbait when my gaff is stored away in my front hatch. I tried using my thin mesh net but its too big and backs himself out of the net and bites through my 12# test. 1/2 hour later my dad comes up with my fish! It is 25" and 6.5#, not a monster but it would have been great to catch a legal on my first trip of '02. It was reassuring to see one at least, its been months since I have even caught a short. I will redeem myself at this place over the next 4 months. The wind died after 8 and it was glassy and sunny until we left at 12. Great weather, ok fishing and the closures were withdrawn! What more could you ask for? TL, Tommy
