#4794, "Santa Ana River Jetties Yesterday"

I went to flyfish the jetties at the -.8 minus tide yesterday...Most of the regulars seem to feel it flyfishes better at low tide...

When I got there, I was amazed how much beach was exposed...With the waves breaking close I thought it would be productive...I soon discovered the sideshore current was so strong I could not get my fly into position...

I eventually gave up and went south to 52nd streetn Newport...The minus tide had the beach exposed way past the jetty...What a trip!

I got one nice strike but no fish...I am wondering how some of the bait or grub fishermen, or other fly folk did...

BTW, a surfer at the jetties said he saw a huge flattie sitting in the river channel in less than a foot of water last week...
