#817, "summerland sunday"

Launched at 730 with wolfman from summerland beach. Caught a bunch of 'dines for bait. Had a couple of ripping hits from halibut drifting in close, but landed none - closest I got was when a 10+ pounder threw the hook about 5 feet from my yak.
A while later I glanced down to see a rather long shadow pass under me - it circled a couple times and came up to sniff at my bait bucket - a 5 foot thresher shark. I did a quick retie with a steel leader tied to a 6 foot 50 pound mono section. Threw the shark a sardine - about 3 seconds after it hit the waterand line began screaming off my reel. I counted to 15 and set the hook. The thing nearly spooled me about 3 times before i got him to the boat 1/3 hour later. Neat animal, but just a baby as far as tsharks go so i cut the hook off and let him go. I cant wait to catch his big brother.
