#8369, "Newport, 11-28-02"

Launched around 7am from the CG beach; meant to launch at 4:30, but overslept. Started off slow w/ only some short bites on various plastics. Worked my way out to Pirates cove by around 8, and things picked up. Started a slow pick on the Calicos that eventually went WIDE. In two hours I pulled 40+, though only 9 were legal. Most were in the 9-11.5" range, and the biggest legal was only like 1.5#. Dumped at least as many as I caught too. Bite died at around 10 when the tide stopped pulling.

Best baits were; 4' tube in watermelon w/ red and blue flake, 4" Powertube in rainbow trout, and Tight Line Lure's 4" swimbaits in rainbow trout or chovie. All fish were caught in 20-25' on the dropoff from shore to the channel.

Air started off coldish, but ended up rather warm. Wind got a little annoying, but at least it kept me drifting parallel to the jetties. Water was about 60ยบ and pretty clear (though it was dirty for this time of year there). Very fun day, I went out expecting to do well if I got 4 fish.
