I went on the 10-3 half day trip out of Dana Wharf for some bassin. We fished the local kelps and did decent. The commorants were a big problem. If you fished a chovie you need between 1/4 and 1/2 slider and would still picked up by the birds down deep. It is kinda fun setting the hook and watching your line rush towards the surface, made me think i had a dorado or something on. I ended up with about 8 or 9 bass with about 2 legals and one nice sized sargo and probably 8 or 9 commorants. Most fish for the day came on strips of squid but alot of mine came on the chovie's when i got them past the birds. Tried plastics for a while but only got short bit.
