Personally, I think you're comparing apples to oranges. Ok, maybe oranges to tangerines LOL, but still...
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was only able to fish a total of 6 maybe 7 days last year. But I think you'ld be hard pressed to find someone more passionate about fishing than I am.
This year I've been out twice. The first time resulted in 4 fish including a 5+. The second resulted in a couple lost fish but the one I caught was 7.3. The bites I had were all big fish. What does this mean? NOTHING! :) Other than it reinforces my own opinion that I CAN catch fish. That made me feel pretty good. Right now, that's what counts.
That said, everything I do is towards my ultimate goal of doing this professionally. Which means I need to impress other people with my skills. That motivation doesn't make me a lesser angler. My lack of resources right now may, because I don't get to fish as much as I'd like to.
Anyhoot, if you're a trophy hunter, compare yourself to somebody like Mike Long and you'll get your answer. If you're a tourney guy, compare yourself to the last few winners of the Classic and you'll have yours.
By the way, I don't think the local(state & regional) pros are any more talented and some not as talented than most guys we all know. The "local pros" just fish more often. THAT'S IT!!! If some of us could fish as often as they do, we'd probably smoke 'em like cheap cigars!

Ok, I'm off my soap box. Good night and tight lines.
Chris
