I'm fishing Lake Okeechobee for another 3+ weeks. I just finished doing the BP Eastern Series FLW out there (finished 69th...not quite good enough). Anyway, I couldn't dedicate the time in practice for this first event to the bigbaits, because the bite was tough, and I just needed to get on some fish, period.

I went out yesterday, and put the 6" Weedless Hudd to work. Okeechobee is ridiculous with vegetation. You have 2 options on Okeechobee..fish a bait over top of the slop (ie. horny toad, speed worm, flappin shad) or flip. A lot of the areas that hold fish are just too overgrown to fish any swimming baits. Of course, I'm looking to find some more open water to fish, that has the clear water to apply to the swimbaits.

I didn't hook any fish. I had 2 good bites though. Honestly, I need to change rods and reels. I was fishing the 6" Hudd on a 964 Loomis, Curado SuperFree, 50# P-Line Braid...I got the bites, but didn't stick the fish. The bites weren't exactly trainwreck bites, but gave me something to work from.

The bait is extremely weedless. It can be dropped into holes, and comes thru almost everything pretty well. I like the line tie up on the nose/tip of the bait, it helps a lot.

So, more to come as I explore this bite.

Bit Hudd:

Bait trails near the heavy slop, little more open water, and held some fish:

And here is a look at the heavy slop up close. I can't get the bait thru all of this, but it worth exploring more:
