#11109, "New Pics: Baitsmith Magnum Trout"

Hmmmm, the Magnum Trout. I can't figure this one out yet. It's sold out on TW non-stop so people must be buying it. But no one is talking about it. Which means either its working great, or its not working. Anyone going to fess up?

I bought two baits. One of them swims perfect. Beautiful straight action with some very interesting fin movement on the retrieve (the lure sort of quivers). I keep feeling like I'm going to get a good bite on that one and some day it will probably happen.

Bait number 2 swims fine at slow speed but wants to get on its side when reeled fast. Positioning the hooks to the side cures most of that. But it doesn't have the same money feel that bait number 1 does. A disappointment at $40 to be honest.

Durability wise, these baits are holding up great. No peeling in the paint or tearing of the plastic. I love the fact that there are 3 wire loops for stinger hooks, thankyou Baitsmith for saving me the trouble of wiring up my lure!

Sink rate on these is more than a Hudd 12, perhaps close to a 16. The action is pretty much what you are expecting if you have ever thrown a huddleston (who hasn't). It's not as 'wobbly' as a hudd but the tail moves just about the same.

Overall I like the size of the lure and I feel like I'm going to get some good bites on it. The one bait swimming funny might just be me, I don't have enough lures to validate the quality in a definitive way. If I can pry your thoughts on this lure from you, please chime in. I'll write the full review once I've made up my mind. It takes time on the water to determine the most important question of all - do the bass bite it?
