Aaron and I left the 'hood at 4:30 to sunny skies. I had a very hard time deciding what rods to bring but i finally decided on taking the cranking rod and a jig rod. When we got to the parking lot at around 5 it was packed and we expected trout fishermen to be all over the place but we lucked out and only one guy was fishing the point. We waited about 15 minutes for that guy to leave and then fished the prefered spot. Absolutely nothing going on on cranks or the 5/8 ounce jig but we kept at it. While talking to Aaron I missed a small bite on the jig but it did not feel like a commited fish at all. At this point I'm getting very discouraged since the weather was almost identical to the weather when I caught a 7-10#er on November 6, and I wasn't getting bit on the jig! I took the crank bait off and threw an 8" Yammamoto worm texas rigged with the glass bead on it for a couple more little bites. Now we have an hour left before the park closes and Aaron says hes going to try by the launch ramps, however I have fished there countless times and have never even seen a bass caught there so I stayed put. I alternated between the jig and the worm before loosing the worm rig so I decided to join Aaron. I reached the first ramp and Aaron wasn't there so I tried fishing it for a little while. OK the fish are not hitting jigs or worms right now, the day before I had a fish explode on my 9" slammer so maybe they are biting trout. I brought along a 5" Prizm Pepper Trout with a 3/4 oz. Fishco head for this occasion. I threw it about 10 times and pulled about 10 pounds of weeds off of it every time. I saw Aaron standing on the bank opposite of me so I threw it over there and it landed in about 2ft. of water right in front of him :) I reeled it in quickly to avoid the weeds and halfway inbetween me and Aaron it gets slammed. Expecting it to be weeds, I began cranking it in waiting for a big mound to surface but I felt headshakes instead. I was even more delighted when I saw a fish come up. I thought "OK hes about 3#" then he almost dove under a ledge and began thrashing on the surface and I realized he was much larger. It took two tries to lip him but when I got him I could hardly hold him up. I called for Aaron and he showed up along with another bass fishermen. The other guy said it was about 14-15#, I wish! Aaron and I gave a conservative estimate at 10-11#. I did not learn my lesson when I caught the other decent fish earlier this month and I still do not have a scale. This bass was absolutely loaded with trout and we took the length and girth measurements using Aarons rod. It was really dark at this point but we went ahead and took some shots with my disposable outdoor camera but it only works in the daytime so I'm praying that this fish will come out OK. If not its another fish story, but thats cool with me too! I have two witnesses anyway. The only problem is now I will go buy a scale and a digital camera and not catch another fish for months!
