#6237, "New to trophy fishing"

I live in mission viejo and every year I tell myself that I will focus on my Large mouth bass game, but I never do. I guess the call of the ocean has always been to great. But after hearing about Mike Long's big catch there I figure its time to give it a shot. But my problem is that I am not sure where to begin.

So my first question is what rod and reel to use. Ideally I'd like to use my saltwater gear for this if I can. Here is what I have for my saltwater bass gear.

7' Seeker react with a calcutta 200 (8# set up)
8' Terramar (10 - 20# Rating)with a cardiff 300 (12#)
8' Calico Special (12-30# Rating) with an Avet SX (20#)

Will any of these set up work?

Also, The only lure I have bought is the 3:16 mission fish. So what I like to do is utilize one of my existing setup and just take the one lure to the lake a few times a week until I starting getting the patterns down. Is this a good lure to start off with? And when is the best time to use this lure?

The last question is this. I'll be taking my 10 year old out with me most of the time. Is there a recommended go to lure for him to use that is relatively easy to fish?

Any tip or advice are appreciated.

Kevin
