#36257, "Casitas Report"

Friday: Got a late start from my house and it ended up taking about 2.5 hours to get to the lake. As I was going through the main gate I spoke to a Ranger that "Had never seen a kickboat before", I told him about Bass-n-tubes and he said there is no problems fishing Casitas from a tube or kickboat, as long as you are wearing waders. I made my way to the Coyote Ramp and was rowing my way towards the north side of the main island. The north end of the lake is all with in rowing distance. It didn't take long and I was working my way around the north side of the island throwing a mission fish and working a jig. I went a long ways working points and coves along the west side heading south. Never stuck a one ;(, I tried everything, I have no idea what I was doing wrong. I fished from 1 - 25 feet deep.

I have to say, when I got on the water I could not believe the pressure, there were so many boats out there, and it was only Friday.

The camping was not bad either, my spot was only a few feet from the water. Water level is only about 7 feet down (guesstimating).

Saturday: I launched from coyote ramp at about the same time as a tournament was blasting off from the other ramp to the south. Had a dozen boats go by me heading into station canyon. I went all the way over to the west shore. Fished all the way into station canyon. Station canyon had some great tullie points, problem was there was a boat about every 5 feet (no kidding). The place was a zoooo. I found a bed and started working a senko across the area. Nothing. except, I did loose an expensive pair of Oakley sunglasses....that one hurt. I swear, I have no idea what I was doing wrong, I drop shotted, jigs, swimbaits, jerk baits, pitchin senkos..no idea.

Water is crystal clear, at least 15-20 foot visability. There is some great structure to fish and all of it with in a short row from Coyote ramp.

I will be back again on the weekend of the 23-25, with a Cal Bass Federation event on the 25. Anyone have any ideas to help me out??

All in all, if you ever wanted to try this "lunker" lake out from a kickboat, I say go for it....
