I had a lot of fun for not catching any legal size fish! I have never been to Berryessa before so I had looked on Google earth for a few days trying to find some spots that looked good and stick with a plan. I started on the opposite shore from the launch and found large schools of suspended fish in about 35-40 feet of water but could not get them to go. As I started throwin a little deeper to fish some cruising fish I get a real subtle bite on the drop shot but missed it. If I only knew thats how they were going to bite all day I might have done better. I moved up and down that shoreline for about an hour and watched Troy catch a small keeper moved across to the main point for nothin. Went back across to start heading down the cove that Taylor was in. As soon as I got around the island/hump on that main point I started to catch fish. The first one I caught was about 11.5" smallmouth that thought he was 3lbs. On the hookset I was sure that fish was a good one. About 2 cast later just down the line I got a largie that was 12". ####! I went on down that shoreline towards Taylor and his friend in a boat and caught 5-10 fish that had to be measured and none big enough. Once Taylor and I met up and I heard how tough it was for him I started to get worried that I was going to blank. I missed another very subtle bite that felt like it was going to be my first fish. The school of fish that Taylor and I sat over was pretty cool and was entertaining for a few minutes. At the end of the day I went straight to the launch to clean up and had 5 minutes left so I decided to throw around the dock last minute and immediately caught another 3. All were 1/4-1/2" short. Very fun day and can't wait to fish that place again! Good year T!
