I have also given this some thought but have not tried it yet. I was thinking of extending the power leads and hose so that the pump can be dropped down 6+ feet so you can pull water that is cooler for the fish instead of just pulling water off the surface. I am sure this would help in the summer time heat; my only concern would be that the pump was able to pull/push water from that depth. This is just a thought, but if anyone has tried it please let me know how it works.
