I recently shortened my trolling motor shaft. While I was putting the bolt back throuth the shaft, that hold the head on, I screwed up.
The bolt cut about a 1/4" long strip of insulation off of the negative wire. Thre is no way to wrap some electrical tape around it because the wire is too short and won't pull out of the shaft. Is this gonna cause me any problems? The motor works fine right now.

Thanks, Jerry

As long as the 12 power wire doesn't touch the grounding wire your fine. If you can get to the wire that is nicked by the screw, use some good silicon like for doors and windows ( type 3 at the home depot) or if there is a west marine local you can get some marine grade silicon and smear it all over the cut area and try to spread the wires apart (the red and black wires) the best you can so the silicon will go between the wires and when it dries you won't have any problems, try to make sure the exsposed area isn't touching anything metal. This might last the life of the motor good luck.

Could you use some of the liquid electrical "tape" and apply with a Q-Tip??

What about some heat shrink tubing? The diameter isn't too thick and it will seal the wire up.

I took holb5's advice and just siliconed it. Works fine still. Now I got to get the foot pedal replaced, it's a powerdrive. The pedals benn acting u lately, before I shortened the shaft, and now the momentary button won't work.

Thanks, Jerry
