#511, "Single vs. Double Tail?"

When it comes to single tailed hula grubs or grubs used as jig trailers vs. double tailed baits used in the same manner, do you guys prefer one over the other under certain conditions? Does it really make a difference in terms of getting bites whether it has one or two tails? Just looking for some input.

Jake

That's a good question. I typically used twintail spyder or hula-type grubs when I am trying to mimic crabs or crawdads. I use singletail spyder or hula-type grubs when trying to mimic baitfish. I usually drag or hop the doubletails and swim the singletails. I have used single and doubles interchangeably too but my highest confidence is using them like I stated at the beginning.

fongster has some good advice. If you're around shad or feel like the fish are on bait in general, try a single tail. I've done well in the summer time especially using a smoke colored single tail 5" Assalt grub on a brown or brown/purple jig. It's not a big fish jig but good for numbers. In the winter or spring I pretty much only use double tails.
