Tyson, I am also just starting to fish the misson fish. I have gotten lots of bites on both the 5" and 6" fishing them just like a big jig. I've been using both the curly tail and the thumper tail. i got the hardest bite of my life on the 5" thumper tail but broke it off on the hook set x(. I have not fished this bait a whole lot yet but I realy like it so far. The only draw back I've found so far is turning bites into fish in the boat. I think smaller fish just grab at the tail but a 3+ has no problume inhaling the whole bait and those bites should = hookups:).

Tyson, In my last post I said " I was having trouble turning bites into hookups". Well today I figured something out and hooked five of the six bites I got. I have heard it befor but it never sank in until today and tried it myself. If you can set the hook on slack line, your hookups will go way up. No big fish to report but I only missed one bite. As soon as I would feel the fish I would lower my rod tip to put slack in the line wait 1/2 a second and swing for home. I think this really helped. I had posted befor that the hookup ratio was poor. After today I felt I should share my experiece with you and say that the lack of hooked fish was due to angler error and not a drawback to the bait.

CST, I had been using 15# florocarbon. Ater breaking off a really good bite I have upgraded to 20# and plan to go to 25# for night fishing. Even with the 20# I worry more about breaking a rod than the line. 20# floro is tough stuff.
