Advertised by Osprey? Where is that? I can't seem to find their home page.

As far as posting without an email address, just click reply and enter a name. Better fix that Rob so you can be in control.

Here's the Osprey Home page

www.ospreylure.com

And thankyou for explaining how you were posting. It was a mistake on my part that allowed it and since it's fixed now you'll have to log in to reply to me. Maybe you can sign up a bogus email account to get in this time? Sorry if you think I am a control freak, I try to moderate the forums in a way that makes them a place where the 98% wants to post. If I lose the 2% that want to get a comment in without leaving an email, that's just the way it goes.

But hey, I'm feeling in the mood so let's talk some. I am sensing by your post that you think it's not appropriate for me to point out products that are being OEM'd. I don't know if you have a problem with that idea in general or if it's a specific deal with Osprey and/or Rago baits.

In general, some OEM agreements are confidential between the companies and others are not. Cabelas doesn't advertise who manufactures their reels for example and it may be a confidential agreement. The Cabelas rod holders I bought last month said Cabelas on the side but said Scotty on the knob. I guess that must not be confidential since Cabelas decided not to pay the increased cost to have Scotty mold a new knob. I noticed on the other hand that the new Rick Clunn crankbait is made by Lucky Craft and that was clearly advertised in the Bass Pro catalog. That's a good move by them because they leverage the strong branding that Lucky Craft has already established in the fishing market.

In my opinion it would be in Osprey's interest to advertise that Jerry is painting their baits since Jerry has a great reputation as a lure painter. To think people wouldn't figure it out anyway is absurd because anyone who's seen the original generic trout would know that the paint job on the Osprey hardbait is identical. It would be smarter for Osprey to adverise that Jerry is painting the lures than to have people think they were knocking off the paint job. Those are my thoughts anyway.

Along this same topic, I'm hoping that when the Live Trout Softbaits become available again (presumably mfgr'd by Osprey), that they are just as good as the ones Jerry sent me a year ago. Those baits stick pigs and when it comes to what lures I use, I don't consider personal relationships - I USE WHAT WORKS. Too bad for the fish huh!

Rob, nice fish, a recent catch? By the way, the Live Trout Swinbait is the only one as yet that we have not subbed out to Osprey. We're working hard on gearing back up to fill more orders. I just finished a couple hundred of our super secret rigs for the smaller size Generic Trout Swimbaits and Bluegill. Should be getting them poured sometime this week we hope. Woke up to almost about 8" of snow up here in the Owens Valley this morning. Shoveling snow, now that's Aerobic!

Hey Steve, I read about a few toads that were caught on a new Rago "Tool"? Care to share, or is it still in the works?

Steve,

Recent catch you bet - just look at the weather. They were all last week. I got another one yesterday, 10.3 - same bait.

http://calfishing.com/albums/bass/rob_10_3.sized.jpg

I caught the fish at 3 different lakes whether you believe that or not. All on the light green back with the clear/silver belly live trout softbait with no pink or red stripe, just like I asked Jerry for about a year ago and he very graciously sent - one each for me and Nico. Too bad I only have that one bait in that color, when it dies I'll be bummed. Last week it caught 4 fish for 39.6lbs for me.

Now that I've answered your question, I'd like to ask you a favor. I'd like you to apologize for posting as Curious and Curious 2 and I'd like you to knock of the smart remarks like "Any notable catches made on them yet?" and "Better fix that Rob so you can be in control." You must have realized by now that this isn't a trash talking board, and you are the only one talking trash.

I don't see you walking the line like this over on the Allcoast Tuna Board where you usually hang out and if you don't knock it off, I am just going to ban you which would be unfortunate because since I don't talk to Jerry any more, and he doesn't post any more, you're one of the few sources to find out info about his new baits. I'd think it would be in your and Jerry's best interest to just be cool, share some bait info etc on this board which I provide for that exact purpose (read free advertising) and quit trying to start a war with people. It's really counterproductive and I'm very tired of it. Most of the general public doesn't care either, they just wanna see new stuff and catch fish. Everyone else has been doing just fine discussing new product and giving their opinion without talking trash and I hope you decide to do likewise.

Rob, let's take a look at this:

"I'd like you to apologize for posting as Curious and Curious 2..."

I simply replied, and was only asked for my name. Any other board I've posted on defaults to a prompt to logon if you are not. Not my fault your software did not do that at the time, although I see you've attended to that.

...and I'd like you to knock of the smart remarks like "Any notable catches made on them yet?"

That's not a smart remark. It's simply an inquiry as to the relative success of the bait. What in your estimation makes a bait a good bait? Is it "sick" or does it look cool? If it does not produce fish, what good is any bait then except to maybe hang on the wall as a decoration or frustrate the angler who's throwing it?

"Better fix that Rob so you can be in control."

For that remark, I apologize. I'm not exactly sure why emails are required for this kind of stuff any way, except to make them public so I can get more unsolicited advertisemenst with bad spelling for Vigra, Cialis, etc.

"I don't see you walking the line like this over on the Allcoast Tuna Board where you usually hang out"

That's a different world. For me, that's recreation. I usually fish one or two long range trips each year. I've got lots of cyber fishin' buddies on Allcoast. There are a few knuckleheads on those forums, too. Most notably on the Tackle Board, and I've taken exception with a few of them.

"...and if you don't knock it off, I am just going to ban you"

Rob, if this is such a protected precious little world you have going over here, I'm sure you'll do what ever you have to do. It's not Disneyland, it's reality. People have a right to voice their opinions and ask questions. Again, "Any notable catches made on them yet?" is a legitimate question. Where's the negativity or trash talking in that?

"...which would be unfortunate because since I don't talk to Jerry any more, and he doesn't post any more, you're one of the few sources to find out info about his new baits. I'd think it would be in your and Jerry's best interest to just be cool, share some bait."

Always happy to share info. If you like the Live Trout Swimbait, you're gonna absolutely flip out when you see the one Jerry's working on right now.;)

Jake, that's Jerry's big bait. I thought he had it on display at the Angler's Marine show. It's huge! I posted links to the photos on Moment of Fame a few months ago of some nice fish that Mike Long caught on it. I'll email you one. I'm "photo posting challenged."

Ok - I made my point and you have made yours. I do fight on this site to achieve an idealistic goal in regards to the conversation that goes on here and I'm not about to deny it. You can call it disneyland, fairytale or any other name you can think of and it won't change my mind. I think some people really appreciate the way I moderate theboard and I think some people want to have things more fast and loose. Sounds like you're in the second category and so we have some disagreement there. Nothing is going to solve that problem since neither of us are going to budge on our opinions so discussing it any further is pointless.

A great follow up post on your part would be to show some new baits and do your best to keep the 'this is the best lure ever made' rhetoric to a minimum. Give us the facts and figures, the components, the quality, the paint, etc. If you want to show fish that were caught on the baits, that's great too. I have a strong suspicion that those things above are what sell lures, and whether you agree with the way I moderate or not, this forum is going to reach your target market better than just about anywhere else and at a cost of $0.

A bad follow up post would be any post from this account that someone just registered, tho I can't imagine who:

The way I see it, you have options
