#1261, "Okuma Guide Series 7'6" MH"

There were a few posts asking about the Okuma GS 7'6" Medium Heavy recently. Okuma very graciously provided a rod for review on the site and I've had a few trips now to toss it around. I haven't had time for the review yet but just wanted to get on here and mention that if you've been thinking about getting the rod, It's definitely worth your $89.00.

This is going to be a great rod for the smaller stuff like 5-7 inch rubber and the 7-9" wood. It's a little stiff for the real small japanese hardbaits but it hits a nice sweet spot for the small stuff.

Hey Rob,

Is it strong enough to throw huddleston's and does it have a solid cork grip? thanks.

Not sure what you mean by 'solid cork grip'. There is a photo of the full handle in the link above if you want to look at it. It doesn't have an exposed section in the rear grip like the H and XH if that is what you are asking.

Could you throw a huddleston on it, yeah you could. Is it an ideal rod for that lure, not in my opinion. I would use the H or XH for that lure.

Kinda off topic but does anyone know how I can get a hold of the 7'6H? I had one ordered on TW but it keeps getting pushed back. Does Okuma sell directly? Any help is appreciated. I need the rod for my trip to Casitas next week. Thanks.

Yeah that's what I meant. I wasn't sure if it had the exposed blank like the H or XH. I prefer the full cork handle. Thanks for your insight.

Hey Pudd, did you try Angler's Marine? I heard they carry them, I just don't know if they have them in stock though. Worth a try.

I wonder why Okuma doesnt, or wont, make an 8' or longer rod?

E-
I seen them at anglers but the last one I saw looked like it was a blemished one so that's why I think no one bought it. I'm gonna have to give them a call. Thanks for the tip bro.

Okuma is getting a small supply in the country next week. The factory has had a hard time getting Fuji guides as Fuji has been slow in supplying them. Your best bet is still Tackle Warehouse.

Urban... I am working on 3 new swimbait rods. All of them are going to be 7'11" (Still tourney legal) and cover the spectrum. One will be designed for Matt's smaller baits (1 - 3 ounces). The other will be an all around 4 - 6 ounce rod and the broom stick will be based off of our current 761XH. These will be available in the fall of this year.

I have been using the MH since last summer. It’s my stick of choice for wood baits and the ROF 5 Hudd. I like the rod enough to have four of them.

Henry you got me beat. I only have two of the medium heavy's. I cant wait for the new 7'11 in Swimbait rods from Okuma. I will have to get a bunch of those too.
