#2948, "Stren Fluorocarbon"

Does anyone have any experience using Stren Fluorocarbon line? I've never used Stren, and am trying to get a sense on how their Fluorocarbon compares to the competition. My local Wal-Mart has the Stren Fluorocarbon 20# on clearance for $9, which is about 50% less than retail for all the other brands. So this appears to be a good deal on the surface. This line is going to be strictly used for throwing swimbaits, and if the Stren isn't as good as the competition, there is no way that i'm risking my swimbaits and potential hawgs to save a couple dollars. Appreciate any insight and recommendations, and feel free to reccomend alternatives.

I've never used it but I have been using Seaguar's Carbon Pro in their 20#(swimbaits--15# for everything else) test for all my rigs for a few years now, even for topwater when I can keep the line above the water surface.

I know that a lot of guys shy away from the fluorocarbon for their swimbaits. It seems that you feel really comfortable with it. What's the heaviest swimbait that you throw on the 20#?

Well, since I have yet to catch a Bass on a swimbait, you might not want to 'listen' to me :-). The heaviest I've thrown is about 2 ounces and have had no knots(I use the Crawford knot) slip or fail on the cast. I do believe that f/c because of it being almost invisable, 'helps' when working the 'slower' swimbaits where the Bass may have a longer look at the bait.

The stren stuff really isn't good as a mainline, their are better flouro's out there to do the job if you want flouro. My preference is the Yo-zuri hybrid line.

Yeah, I've used Yo-Zuri in the past, but also use Stren and P-line. I've had no problem with memory with any of these. I also havent used any of these with swimbaits either. Ive used Yo-zuri and P-line for albacore mostly. Stren also claims to be more sensitive than other lines, but to me, it's the same. They make it a point that you can fish higher test line because of their invisibility, but I think P-line and others work as well if not better.

I recently bought some 12# stren fluorocarbon on a clearance sale. I have only fished it once, but experienced no problems. As far as the memeory issue was concerned No tangles or twists from a full day of fishing and a trio of bass.

I've used Stren for years, Lo Vis green mainly. I've experienced no memory or strength problems with Stren. I've used it in Rivers landing 20lb salmon on 10lb test with no issues what so ever. It's pretty abrasion resistant as well. I guess to each his own. I used to use Ande's line for salmon fishing, but switched back to Stren because Ande's line had terrible memory. About the only other line I use is P-line.
