#4116, "Adding custom fields to your gallery"

In the photo galleries, there are several standard text fields to describe an image. They are Title, Summary, Keywords, and Description. The gallery has an option to add your own custom fields for your photos. For example you might want to add fields like "fish weight" or "lure" to describe your photos instead of just typing this information into one long text field like the summary field.

To add custom fields like this, do the following:

- Go to the album that you want to add the fields to

- Click on 'Edit Album' in the navigation on the left

- Click on the 'Custom Fields' tab

- Click where it says 'Override global custom field settings for this album'

- On this screen you can add custom fields at the photo or album level or you can add fields to the 'Common Fields' section to add them to both the photo and album level. To add a field, type in the name of the field in the box beneath Common Fields, Album Fields, or Photo Fields in the Add/Remove section of the page, then click the Add button. This will make the field appear higher up on the page under the Display section.

You can also add a pick list for your custom field so that you can select the value for the field from a drop down menu instead of typing it in every time. This option will appear at the bottom of the page once you've added the field. Setting pick list values is optional.

Now set whether you want the text field to display only in the details of the photo or in the summary as well (summary is what shows up under your pic in the gallery). Check the boxes that you want there and then click save. You must save at this step or you custom field won't be added. You can add as many fields as you like.

For an example of what custom fields look like, you can look at my bass gallery:
