#16827, "Creekism"

Did an afternoon hike today after going to the Fred hall show this morning. Hit the mother load.

There was this old bluegill, who lived down the road. You can often find her kneeling inside of her hole. It has become apparent to me that Spring creekin is way better than Winter or Fall creekin. All the biggest panfish on any given creek are rushing to be first to eat the intruding lure. Works for me.

I tip toed yup to nice hole and saw a rather large LMB sunning, so I backed off and ducked down and tied on a little jerk bait then snuck around to the far end of the hole. Gave a few tosses to see how he’d react but I seemingly disappeared. So I tied on the Ika next and worked it around in the shadowy depths, and again got no reply. I wanted to try one more thing before I left so I hooked up a blue Senko and chucked it way in the back corner over the downed reeds. HOOK UP!!

Fade away and radiate.

I took that same Senko, retied it, and walked around some brush and tossed it way back into the opposite corner over even more downed tullies. HOOK UP AGAIN!
This one was even bigger, this is the one I spotted when I originally approached this hole.

Drag peeling for days…but I managed to win again.

Several holes later I see a huge panfish that I recognized from my last visit. He wouldn’t touch my lure the last time I was here. I tossed it out to see what he’d do and he nailed it, but I missed him. By now he had attracted the attention of all the other gillies, but I wanted this one. It was different than the others, it looked like a Green sunfish and it was bigger than the rest. I situated my little grub all nicely and gave it a heeeping helping of Unibutter. I pulled some line off the reel with my hand and hand tossed the grub right to the fish. At first he didn’t even notice it until all the smaller fish were rushing my grub, then he turned around and raced past all the other fished and inhaled my grub. I was already winding up the slack when he hit and I hamboned him. He fought super hard and run under ever log in town, but I got him. Turns out he wasn’t a true Greeny but a big mutt instead. My biggest creek panish to date. Much bigger looking in real life of course.
