#10366, "Can anyone help me?"

My friend is the GM at a golf course in San Diego and at this course they have a small pond, which is apparently loaded with big bass. Although no one is allowed to fish in it, he decided it would be ok if I try my luck in it this weekend. I am just curious what you experienced bass fishermen would suggest for bait. I can't bring a tackle box because I am supposed to be low key about it. I would appreciate any suggestions.

If it's off limits then this is GOOD!! They should be willing to take almost anything! If you go in the morning throw topwater to start. If the topwater bite turns off or isn't there, try jigs and t-rigged worms. I would start with big profile baits and then downscale if needed. If you have to downsize, try dropshotting or senkos in browns and greens. The combinations are endless. I love fishing small, semi-unfished ponds! Don't be afraid to throw big baits to start out! 9" Slammer

be prepared because the pond may be matted with weeds during this time of year. Definitely bring a frog and some soft jerk/twicth baits for weedless presentations. Also a very small assortment of of some plastics a shallow diving hard bait and a topwater and your covered a few weights and hooks and your set. You should be able to fit everything in s small sandwich size tupperware container which you can stash in a pocket, or maybe a back pack, well if you really want to go incognito just stuff in a golf bag. You should ask your friend if you could fish it at night or very early morning. Not only would you be less likely seen but you would also be fishing during prime feeding time for this time of the season. Good luck and don't forget your camera.

You can't go wrong throwing a frog. I know some guys that fish ponds like that and they're always throwing big buzzbaits. I'm sure you could throw a crank and get some fish

A good bet would be a mojo rig or even a small texas rig. Put on a small straight tail worm and you should hook up. What course in SD(if you can say)? I golf so I am curious to know which pond has bigguns in it. Good luck!
