#10716, "O for 8 at the Aqueduct"

Woke up early this morning and decided to give the aqueduct a try after a 2 year hiatus. Fished from 6-8am this morning for cats. I fished an area where the were gates, and the water was really flowing. I was using 10# Trilene XL with 3oz sinker at the bottom and a #2 baitholder about 18 inches up. I used chicken livers for bait. Had a hard time hooking and keeping the livers on, but I heard this is the bait of choice for the aqueduct (I prefer mackeral). End result NADA! The bait kept coming off, and it seemed that my bait was always near the edge of water. I am an experienced catfisher, but when it comes to the aqueduct, no dice! Can someone offer tips, suggestions, or condolences? Thank you

It's pretty tough when the water is flowing very hard. You can try a little heavier line with heavier weight to stay a little closer to the middle of the aqueduct; however, I've caught some pretty good sized catfish and stripers on the side-walls. You can use salmon-roe nets to keep the chicken liver from coming off your hooks. One bait that I've had pretty good success with are whole anchovies. Hope this helps.
