Will be at santa Margarita May3-6 for our yearly Bass tournaments. Coming from out of town, I usually have no chance. I am also at a disadvantage due to my boat size (12' Alum with homemade decks that are too heavy), lack of experience (fish about 3 times a year, work gets in the way) and them darn locals who fish 3 times a week, know all the tricks. This is a yearly event with a bunch of friends and braggin rights for a year would be great. Although this would be my 7th consecutive trip , I have only fished Margarita 7 times, so as you can see I am in big need of help.I am a big spinner bait believer and got a 6.4 two years ago only to watch a 8.11 take me out of the money. Got a flippin stick just diein to try but don't know what would work best on it. If anyone has any advice please post it. Willing to try anything. If you happen to out there at the same time, I should be easy to find. Beyond the narrows in the last boat in campsite, I will be the one with the wanna be boat. You got to like my flower covered seat (it's all the material my wife had at the time) Someday I will hit the lotto and get my boat. Good Fishin, Fredrico.

Fredrico,
The fishing been getting pretty good lately at Margarita. I've been getting them on plastics finess baits however. The Zoom Super Flukes (baby bass color) and Senkos have been working for me around the weed beds, both fished texposed and weightless on a 3/0 EWG hooks. I've heard good things about a Senko fished wackey style but haven't tried it yet. If your not familiar with Senkos (Yamamoto Baits) visit the www.NCBF.com fishing forum and search the archives for lots of good links to Senko articles. I think the tackle shop right outside the lake entrance sells Senkos. Maybe someone else can let you know how the reaction bite has been going. I'll be out of town next week so I won't see you there!

Hey is this the annual deal where people camp out up at the narrows and it's a competition for the biggest fish or something like that? A guy last year was asking if I wanted to fish it but I couldn't.
If you want to win, my advice is to throw trout plugs. The plug bite has been turning on up there, I know it first hand. 9" MS Slammer in dark trout. That's all I'm saying.

If you know R. King or any of his friends you probably are talkin about the same group. It's a bunch of fun, gets crazy at times, but you would expect that with a bunch of guys tryin to out do the others. Two tournaments a day with big fish at end of weekend. I got lucky the last two years and won the first one each year, but the group is smaller for the first few so competition was not as rough. I'm not complaining any win is a good win. Plus as much crap as they give me about my boat, it's good to give it back with a win. Thanks for the tip, now off to the store in search of your secret, I bet it will be tough to find. Update you soon.

Thanks Ken, going to check out that site right away. Yes, I heard a lot of talk about Senkos, guess it's time to find out what it's about. Sorry you won't make it, maybe next year. I will update this site when I get home from the trip.
