I'm planning on going to Castaic this Friday and was wondering if anyone knew how the topwater bite at the upper lake was like. Are the shad up & is the topwater bite on? Thanks!

No shad up yet, but we got a couple on poppers and buzzbaits last week. However, the real bite is on plastics. Oxblood red flake Roboworm with brass n glass is the ticket. I boated 10 on Father's day and 6 this past Monday (in 4 hours). Also had a monster (easily 8-9#)snap the line just before I could get the net under him after a 5-minute fight.

Hey Jimmo, thanks for the info! Now I have some sort of game plan when I go out tomorrow. Too bad on the 8.9 lb'er. That's a good size for Castaic, it seems that the lmb are starter to come back at Castaic. I'll post my results and let you know how I do. Hopefully, something worth mentioning. :7

Well, went to Castaic yesterday and the topwater bite wasn't happening. Bass were jumping but just not biting. Also threw buzzbaits & senkos and still nothing. Finally switched to drop shot later in the day & that's when we started hooking up. Color of the plastic didn't really matter. We ended up with 20 with the biggest at 4-4lbs. Oh yeah, it was busy out there with so much boat traffic. Summer is definately here.

That's a lot of fish. Were you drop-shotting in deep water? I've been having pretty good success flipping worms along the shorelines and points. Got a 5.15 yesterday on the oxblood Roboworm.

Well we spent the whole day, so it was a lot of work for those fish. Not too deep, a lot were in 5ft of water just off the shore. We fished between 5-15 ft of water. Good job on the 5lber!
