Hey Darius, To get to the barrier on Middle river from SF you want to go to Tracy. Take Tracy Blvd. north then go left on Clifton Court Rd. follow it down to Cal Pack rd. Go right on Cal Pack. Once you get on the levee follow it about 3/4 of a mile to the sharp right turn and your there.

There is a nice spot to launch right there at the corner. If you keep going to the end of the road (less than a 1/4 mile) there is a locked gate and another spot to park and launch next to a pump there. From there if you look upstream you can see the rock barrier. Boats can't get past the barrier except at the highest tides so it's a great place for a tube or kickboat.

This is Bass-n-Tubes home water ;) and the fishing is pretty good up there right now. If you go post a report on the float tube/kickboat forum and let us know how you did.

You will catch fish drop shotting there. The better fish, for me at least, come on top water or flippin. I personally don't do well drop shotting. There has been a decent crank bait bite right on the barrier lately and the drop shot works pretty good on the barrier also. Above the barrier there is a lot of hyacinth right now. ;) Last weekend our tourney on Old River was won by flippin. With the warm weather this week the top water bite might heat up again. I would go with a frog, buzzbait or Trixie Shads on top and you can't beat a reaper, beaver or Senko if flippin. Good luck!

If you ever feel like tournament fishing from your tube you should hook up with Bass-n-Tubes. our season just ended this past weekend but there is the SCBBBC invitational at Clear lake coming up in mid October. Keep looking on the float tube/kickboat forum for more info as it gets closer.

Darius I just had a few things come up so I am not sure if I will be able to make the tourney or not, but if I do make it I will be loaded and just don’t have the room. I am not sure which way you go to Clear Lake the only 72 I found was in southern California. If you want to avoid a lot of windy roads you can take 80 to 505 to 5 to 20, may be a bit longer but you won’t get as dizzy..
