#4481, "Shaver Lake"

Going on a camping trip next week up to Shaver Lake (out of Fresno). Was wondering if anyone has been there and fished it lately. I'll be able to get out there at least once with my tube and would like to catch some smallmouths.

Thanks in advance

From what I was hearing last year there a ton of little smallies in Shaver these days. I'm sure you can't go wrong with a small rapala, a 3" pumpkin grub, maybe a pop-r, a pins minnow, or a drop shotted 3 or 4 inch worm. Put a post and let us know how it goes. I'm going to Huntington in August and would consider stopping at Shaver if there were smallies to be had.

The one and only time I went to Shaver was over 15 years ago, I was a grom, but I got a ton of smallies and a couple of lmb- still to this day I look at the reports for Shaver looking for bronzies and there is nothing but trout and kokanee reports- glad to see someone is stoked on the smallies there!

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, they're nuts on the Kokanee up there. I can't stand to troll though.

Last time I was there was about 3 years ago, and knocked the hell out of the smallmouths. They were small, but fun since I only had a trout rod!

I'll post my results when I get back.

That was cool to read about. Looks like I better bring the Kencor finger rod and fish the 2#. Should be a kick.
