Took the family to the area 3 lake at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. To start it's a really nice park. The park was clean and well maintained. Lots of open space. We drove in and were told that the big lake was just stocked with trout. We started fishing by the boat rental docks and nothing. Then the park ranger came by and asked for my fishing license. He told us where the fish were dumped(on the other side across from the boats). We tried there for the rest of the day and still nothing.Just fished for trout the whole day. I had my kids convinced I knew what I was doing. Towards the end of the day I think they were thinking that Dad was a "Rookie-Angler". Had a good time anyway!!!!!

What were you fishing with? You really can't go wrong with powerbait,if you let it sit long enough some trout should pick it up.You could try rolling your powerbait up(like a worm)but with a bulge where you small trouble hook would be.Sitting around is tough though, especially if your trying to entertain kids.

Maybe throw a kastmaster or superduper, the gold and red have worked pretty good. Also tipping a minijig with a mealworm and bouncing it on a slow retrive might work.

Hard to tell what those stinkin' trout want, seems to change all the time...good luck next time!

Trev.

Trev, We fished all day with power bait. I lined my poles with 2 lb test. It's pretty hard to tie knots with that stuff. If you pull too hard it breaks or kinks. I used a 1/8 sliding egg sinker/carolina keeper and a #16 treble hook. I tried a bunch of different leader lengths(12 IN, 18 IN, 24 IN)and still nothing. I also tried a few lures I bought the day before. Panther Martin Blk/Yellow, Gold, and a Yellow and Green Rooster Tail. I was using pink, and green/yellow w/glitter Power Bait. There seems to be alot of grass there. Every time you real it in you bring in a glob of moss. We even tried floating the bait near the top with a bobber.Nobody else around us were catching anything either. ????????Any other suggestions?????

Start Bass fishing ;-)

Seriously,it sounds like you did all you could.I would start looking at other lakes in the area to fish.

Trout fishing, and all fishing is weird, you could probably go back tomorrow,do the same thing and have a limit in an hour?

Maybe it was to close to the plant and those fish were still in a daze.If no one else was catching anything either, don't feel bad!
