#114, "Deep Water Castaic Bass"

Finally! I think I've found what type of a bite the bass at the lower lake are on. After 1 fish in about 5 trips(didn't even bother posting-why bother) I finally did a number on those beatiful fat bass. I started in shallow 10-20 feet water like Ive ALWAYS fished in a area I dont fish much. Nothing. I was tired of getting the helmet at my once productive spots. I paddled for about 30 minutes to an area that never gets fished. Anyone who fishes castaic will probably know the spot-theres only 2 of them. I started out in 15 feet shaking a 9" black bonzai worm , texas rigged with a brass n' glass. Nothing in the shallower water again. I had enough of this and decided to fish a few deep water pinnacles I found on a fish finder once. I knew I was in the right spot-boulder all along the bottom. I had a solid hit and the bass almost yanked the rod out of my hand. I set the hook on 12 pound test on a baitcaster as hard as I could. Immediate head shaking and a 20 foot run on a tight tight drag told me it was a 10 . The fish stayed deep 35 feet down and I babied it. I was shaking! After a few minutes I was strait up and down with her. She beelined for the deeper water and jumped - too big to get all the way out of the water-OH sSHIT I said to myself. She stayed on the surface and came right to me after that. Not my biggest but close-at least 12 and a half. I quickly released her and she sloooooowly swam off. Hope she lived. She was aa fat bitch. After that I left god enough alone and went home. A 45 five minute kick to my car- well worth it!

hey Brandon,
Nice fish dude. that's the best when it's slow all day and then you get mauled by a hog. that'll get your heart going. then again, getting mauled by a 12 would get my heart going anytime! good job. -Brian
Brandon,
Way to go getting that hog. Nice adjustment to the deeper water too. I figured it was only a matter of time before you got one of those big dawgs!
Rob
