I fish purely for sport, and go to the lake and catch 4-10 fish 20-40lbs in about 2 hours. Does anyone else fish for carp?

We will probably get thrown out of here for discussing this..LOL!!Yep,I love fishing for carp....The Carps intelligence, sense of smell etc. is found to be higher than the Bass, and Trout!!!..Only in the U.S.A are they considered trash fish.
I love to fish for them with a fly rod...I like to find them tailing in the shallows and throw a nymph or crawfish fly at them. You need some serious stealth, and accurate casting to hook up....They are the poor mans Bone fish....Nathan

Ultra-light set-up with 4 pound test. Throw out a hand full of corn. Small treble hook with a split shot 18" above. Cast, leaving a lot of slack. Sit back and wait. I've caught 8-10 pound carp with this method. They have a month long derby here in Bakersfield every summer with a purse of a $100 for the biggest carp weighed in. Fun to catch on the light gear.

Yep!, carp fishing is fun. Once I found out that corn thing, I catch small to 8lb carp. I use 6lb spinning set up with long long rod. (9feet)

This is the 1st year I fished for them at the county park and had a blast using 4lb test and corn. Took my 14 year old with me she loved it also. They really do pull hard, (especially on that 1st run, zzzzing!) and are fun on ultralight gear.

Your welcome. I've been wanting to try fishing for carp myself . I've seen some big schools of the larger units while targeting Stripers at Castaic .

Peace,
