I don't know about Floridas...I think the C coast has a bunch of northern strains, some spotted bass (naci), and even smallies...

You are on the right track to finding out though. There's a lot of knowledgable people from that area on these message boards!!!

who you talking 'bout Matt?
Unfortunately there aren't any lakes I know of on the central coast with Florida strain bass and trout. Atascadero lake has some nice fish, don't know if they are floridas though. The slammer has accounted for fish to 9.5lbs out of there this year. Other than that, go south or north for the big mammas

North or South?

C'mon that's easy. The south obvi. That Delta got a bunch of dinks in it, and Clear Lake...shoots, just a bunch of little bucks there too!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Okay, I know I've got some guys cursin' right now.

I just read somewhere that Dave Gliebe was claiming he thinks the world record is swimming in the Delta. It is very well possible. This year has really opened my eyes to the trophy bass in the Bay and more Northern CA waters....

"you gotta travel wide, travel wide"

so kooky reggae stuff for ya!

Classic! I live down in OC, home of the dinks, but I heard the Delta is full of little bass and we all know Clear Lake hasn't seen a big bass in ages! Fish the Mission Frog, that thing will kill those dinks up there!

A 9.5 lb northern is a pretty large northern, no?
So there's a chance that there's Floridas in Atascadero lake?
Anyone know the lake record largemouth for Atascadero lake?
It does get stocked with trout too.

The northern strain can easily hit 10 pounds with enough chow and a long growing season- Quite a few 10's come out of Barrett in SD, you just don't see the heavy teen fish and stuff. How was that double digit spotty that guy got out of Pine Flat, I think? Talk about a trophy! And during a tournament! That's cool!

Delta full of dinks!?!?!? Dude pass me some of what you've been smoking. I live in the Central Valley and fish the Delta on a weekly basis. Let me tell you there are more quality fish in the Delta than any other lake, river, pond, or mudpuddle in Ca. And yes, I do happen to catch a few dinks each time I am out. But the overall size of the fish I pull out of there are much bigger than elsewhere in the state. The California Delta was recently named the #1 Bass angling destination in the COUNTRY!!!!!(sorry I dont recall the publication that this ran in) Also, correct me if I am wrong, Aren't dinks pretty much a neccesary part of the population. Cause they sure aren't hatched as 5lbs and up. I personally dont mind the dinks, they are tomorrows trophy's. Just my 2 cents.(wheres my change :) )

Tight Lines,

Clay

Come on, if you can't see my sarcastic side like that when it broadsides you, you shouldn't be driving! Clear Lake and the Delta should have both been in the top 5 in the country for big bass- Serious big bass water! I was kidding when I was talking about dinks- look at what Skeet and Jim Reese have done there, ridiculous trophy bass water- Find the Mission Frog and fish it hard! Luckily I have my little trophy lake down here in SoCal to feed my big bass needs- Go Catch 'em!
California will toast Florida and Texas any day of the week when it comes down to 15+ fish- watch El Salto, that Mexican lake is so full of double digit hungry bass it's silly!

Talk to me about this Mission Frog. I plan on spending both weekends around fourth of July on the delta water and I would like to give this frog a shot. Where can I pick some up?

Hey Swimbait,

I actually did get your sarcasm on the second read of your post. I even tried to edit my post to reflect that but was unable to. I apologize if I came off as harsh. I did not intend to. All in good fun. Keep up the excellent posts. I look forward to them.

Tight Lines,

Clay

Mickey Ellis hand pours them, they are pretty cool- I know Bass World West in Orange has them, it is down here in OC, but they would probably send them to you- He makes killer swimbaits, too-
