I've never heard of any bass in the creek--it's usually bone dry. The DFG does stock trout in high-runoff months during winter and spring. Area is above Live Oak canyon road.

I read in the paper today they found a dead guy who got clubbed and released- the little holes for bass are above dead guy's spot but way below Holy Jim- I've never caught one over a pound, but creek fishing is fun.

I think you guys are getting Trabuco Creek, and San Juan Creek confused. Trabuco Creek is adjacent to O'Neill Regional park. The easiest way to get there is North on El Toro Rd from the I-5 freeway, turn right (East) on Live oak canyon rd. proceed a few miles to the creek bridge crossing, this is Trabuco Creek Rd.(unpaved dirt rd.) You can only go one way, up the creek so to speak. As Fongster posted the DFG stocks trout in the creek in the Winter when the creek is flowing.I have never heard of a bass being caught in the creek although it may be possible. Now for San Juan Creek. You take the Ortega Highway exit from the I-5 freeway North. the creek is all along the Ortega highway. Lots of private property that is patrolled and posted "No Trespassing". there are however some good spots up by the park which is quite a way up from the I-5, I cannot think of the name but it is a county park. This is the park that a little girl named Laura Smalls was mauled by a mountain lion a few years back.Be careful. This part of the creek has been stocked with trout by the DFG in years past, and there is bass in the creek.I also recall the article about the body, and it was located somewhere in the San Juan Creek. Long winded, hope it helps!

I know both creeks well, both have bass. The quarry behind Saddleback used to have some good bass fishing, the bass are still in the creek.
