Ok I'll be fishing the main lake of Castaic this friday. I'll be throwing Texas rigged and Carolina Rigged worms. What color should I bring and where on the lake should I go.

What structure should I look for and what water depths. I'm new to serious bass fishing and would like to get a lot of 1# instead of 1 10# right now.

I'm trying to learn how to fish a pattern (later I'll learn how to pattern fish)

I haven't been to the lake personnally myself in months but my buddy has been going for the last 2 weeks and they have been doing good on Aaron's Magic and purple worms. As for areas, I would try to fish any pre-staging ares such as points or secondary points close to spawning areas. They have been split shotting there fish with not much luck with the texas rig or drop shot. Also I heard that there is a good crawdad bite going on so I would throw a jig to match what the fish are eating right now.

Hope this helps.

Ok what's the difference between split shotting and carolina rigging? Isn't spilt shoting just putting a split shot on the line 18 inches above the hook?

I don't fish Bass at all but there sure were a lot of them swimming around the west ramp area on Tuesday around 12;00 to3:00 I would estamate the size from 5-10 lbs. Also saw some trout swimming maybe about 20 in a group. Monday I could not see the bottom of the lake because of the wind and waves and no one was there but I tried fishing can you belive 8 cast 5 bites 4 caught. It was good fishing for 3 hours and only 3 fisherman came by but none of them fished for trout. I call ed Jimmy at 3:30 when I got home and he went up and got his limit in 1 hour. I released all I dont eat fish.
By the way I used a very fast retrive for a change to keep the lure on the surface. About the oil it is black alge from the bottom of the lake at the ramp when bob runs his racing boats it loosens up the alge from the bottom of the ramp. I hope you can get down there to catch some of the large Bass there were as much as 5 all together swimming around.

Hey Guy..Kelly here.. Rather than me rehashing something I wrote about a while ago ...go to the archive page in this board on page 29 the topic was shore fishing for bass...Check it out and get back to me with any particulars. Strangely enough I've done well with salt and pepper worms on Castaic for years,or smoke and blue flake...usually main lake stuff in the ski arm...If there is a hellashious wind I crank the island area of the ski arm on the windy side with db3 size cranks extremely shallow...Later
