Well the difference in the weather put the fish in a frenzy on Saturday. I started out on my magic spot just cruiseing along tossing the buzzbait after about 60 yards whap! a miss, Whap!a miss,Whap a miss Jumpin jeehosafat what the heck am I doing wrong here. This fish ended up hitting the buzzbait 5 times on 5 casts so I switched up to a rico....Nothing! picked up the other colored buzzbait I had tied on and Smash this time it's on but it's only a keeper.Huh? Now either it was the same fish shortstriking the thing or there are a bunch of them right in one spot. Kept at it for another 30 feet no more takers time to go. Pull up to my next spot and drop the trolling motor and got into the hotest buzzbait action I've had in years!!! I don't know how many hit it and missed or how many I even caught along this stretch but for an hour it was wide open bendo with the fish avg. at around 3 to 4 pounds. I made one errant cast and wound the buzzbait up to the bush the line had gone through and slowly started pulling it up the branch so I could pop it off smash a 5 jumps into the bush and bounces off trying to kill the buzzbait! Scared the crap outta me and of course she didn't get it but it would have been interesting to catch a five OUT OF THE WATER! I left this area to go to my prime buzzbait water and there was nobody there! I couldn't believe my eyes as there was a tournement going on "as always" and this water has always got someone on it. Heck I'll take it, so down the bank I go getting a fish per 60 yards for about 1/4 mile. Sweet! run to another spot .....There are guys out fishing on the flats so I tuck up against the bank and start running along...Hmmm, whole lot of nothing and the cast that I was going to call my last for the area I get a 5....She tore the heck out of the buzzbait so I stopped and made some repairs and moved to my next spot. A big swirl but no bump on the first cast ....Nothing for 200 hundred yards I put the buzzbait one inch off this little cut Boom! best fish of the day about 6 and change...I weighed my five best while eating a dog at the marina and it went 21 1/2...I pulled the boat out and called the little woman to plead my case for a return on Sunday morning...No problem...I went back on Sunday licking my chops and it was altogether different than on Sat. So Brian#2 I don't know why they eat some days and not others.Where was your post for Thursday I didn't see it....If your going, tell us about it! Even when I can't figure them out I'll let us Calfish crowd know I went. The weather seemed the same on Sunday Blessed with a long morning of fog but on Sat. when I pulled off the boat cover it was dry and on Sun. it was wet! Sundays fish where far fewer as I only managed 4 but the were bigger. I had a 7+ hit the buzzbait and I didn't swing just kept up the retrieve and that fish missed a second time. It was quite a sight to see that fish cartwheeling across the water....Very agressive but she must have been farsighted because she sure missed that bait by a mile! Jeff- The bait I've been keeping quite about is a 7" worm king swimbait with a 3/4 oz. leadhead. I've been tossing it on bluebird days with alot of sucsess. I couldn't find them anywhere so I ordered up 25 of them and got them on Friday but the morning bite was so awesome that I just couldn't stop and give it a try this weekend! Hope all is well with everyone and Brian I know it was a cheap shot and I prolly shouldn't have taken it sorry but hey guys lets talk it up out there! I helped out some guys from San Diego on Saturday and when I saw them on Sunday they where all smiles....One thing about Cachuma.....They don't like a big Clacking buzzbait, they just want it slowww! The other thing I saw was alot of guys fishing prpendicular to the bank....In my mind that's dead wrong as your only in the strike zone for a few sconds instead of the whole retrieve. I pull the boat into 8 feet of water and bring the backseater up front and make parrallel casts with the trolling motor on 24 volt #3 and force feed them the bait....You eat up water but come back in an hour and they will be back!

Kelly

Great report Kelly! I thought that was what you were using from some of the little hints you had thrown out but just wasn't to sure. I hope to get up there soon, just waiting for my new LCX-15Mt to come in so I can give it a try. Hope to see you up there soon, I will be in a copper color Ranger.

Talk to you later, Jeff.

Thanks for providing the color info, Kelly. Do you think that the Big Hammer trout color, of which I have plenty left over from successful NorCal lingcod fishing, would work as well as the Fishtrap?

Well this is my take on it salmonoid...two weeks ago I was really tearing them up on the bluebird days and I had a 3 pounder really tear the bait a new one and I thought heck I better save this thing and get to Hook Line and Sinker and get some more, well long story short nobody had them in Santa Barbara and Shin says he's not had that bait for two years...I doubt it but anyway I bought some big hammers and took them out and fished the same spots and nothing! I switched over to the mauled bait and two casts later stuck a fish...So I cut it off again, went to the bottom of the hill and told Shin I had to get Worm kings phone number. I got it and called the guy up...He's not very responsive to the... I gotta have it! and I gotta have it now! thing but I bought 25 "minimum order" and paid Shin 80.00 bucks for his effort as they would not sell to me but would ship to him. I use this color on my wood baits exclusivly and always have since I found them. So the answer is I don't know! Maybe a coincidence that I got the fish when I changed up? available light?confidence? I don't know the answer but I think we need to put the screws to the local tackle shops and see if we can't get them to keep them in stock. Worm King claims he has 1800 colors and cannot keep anything in stock! I got Shin to take on R.&R.Stroker Worms in 1988 as he was only carrying junk at the time and I ended up winning angler of the year that year just dragging worms from other guys backseats so I really thought alot of the colors and styles. So he can be prevailed upon if it will effect his pocketbook but his opinion of bass fisherman is that we are too fickle and whats in this week is out next...I don't want to hurt his feelings but he just doesn't understand that he needs to load up on fall baits in the summer and winter in the fall and so on. Hope this helps and if you find yourself out on the lake with nothing but big hammers I know you can get testimonials from a dozen guys on this site that would swear buy them....Go figure...One thing I have learned in the last month is don't mess with something that works..I bought some flourocarbon to toss the baits on....drug it behind the boat for a mile and still couldn't cast the stuff for Sh*t! Anybody know what kind of flourocarbon Kevin VanDam is tossing his cranks on? I'd like to try this again as I'm sure it would add a better presentation but I cut the stren of my reel after an hour and respooled with my maxima 15 green.

Kelly
