#80, "September 21, 1999 Santa Margarita Lake"

Today it was a mid-day run to the lake between classes from 11 to 4. The lake was glassy when I got there which was unusual. Weather was hot too with thunderheads building all afternoon. This apparently was not to the fishe's liking because the fishing sucked! The 30 boat tourney this weekend probably didn't help things out either. I fished the marina cove for nothing, then down to the steep walls by jackass canyon and over to vaca flats. No bites, no nothing. Then back to the marina cove where I metered around looking for some outside ledges or dropoffs or anything that might be holding fish. If found some stuff but only managed a bluegill and a 10" bass jigging a 3/4oz hopkins spoon. There were some schoolies on the marina point and on one of the inside points but I think they were feeding on very small baitfish. They would chase my fish trap but not eat it. Synopsis: figure something out and let me know, last week it was pretty good today it was like the dead sea.
