#1480, "Local Yak Fishing Tournaments"

Hey Guys,

I am going to put together some fishing tournaments and fishing trips for both kayakers and float-tubers in the next few months. My focus will be on Kayak fishing but will not be limited to that. I do want to keep it to people-powered craft, ie. surfboard, rubber boats, tubes, yaks.... anything you paddle or kick. The tournaments will be for fun, with the entry money
being split amoungst the winners, and a BBQ following.

The fishing trips will be more to go out and share techniques and spots with others, as well as to get those of you that want to try kayak fishing or kayaking. These will be more relaxed and informal than the tournaments.

I am joining the team at Paddle Sports as their fishing "guy". I want to get as many of you out there fishing.... whether you end up on one of our kayaks, doesn't really matter to me. I am working with them to outfit some demo boats so we can all try out new boats.

I am looking at the first weekend in march for our first event. This time of the year is very much controled by the weather, so we will be flexable.

Anybody have any comments? Questions? Concerns?

Marco,
Did you ever talk to Paddle Sports about the "float tube guy"? I'd love to help out.

I don't want to put words into anybody's mouth, but they'll most likely be around the Santa Barbara area, at spots like Goleta Beach, Campus Point, Leadbetter, Carp Reef, Gaviota, Devereaux, maybe Naples, etc.

Sorry, been away from the net.

The tournaments will be held in Santa Barbara county, mainly south-coast from Gaviota to the Ventura coastline. Depending on turnout, we might try a salmon derby out of Avila, as they tend to be in pretty tight there sometimes.

The entry will probably be between 5 and 10 dollars. I appreciate that most of us that live in SB are on a budget, and paying much more than that on a monthy or bi-monthly basis becomes prohibitive for some.

I have a few projects going on this week, but towards the end of the week, I will begin discussing some options as to our first tourny, probably around the 3 week of March (depending on the weather and the bite).

I look forward to fishing with all of you soon....!

It's a bit south for me but I think I could swing it a time or 2.
We'll see as they get closer.

Tight lines,
