#3301, "Albacore 9/12/01"

Fished virg's in Morro Bay on Wednesday. I have to tell all, we broke the Albacore count record w/ 325 plus fish. I dont think I new the true meaning of wfo until now. We caught our first troll fish @ 6:45 AM. It took all of 3 minutes to pick up the 1st pnut. After that we just stayed there and caught fish for 5 hours straight. The big fish was about 35 lbs and the average was 12-14 lbs. Many fish were caught on the megabait jigs, but most were on 4" chovies and dines. The hot bait was the biggest dine you could find. If you had good bait you could get bit on every drop.
I ended up w/ only 10 fish. It was my 2nd tuna trip and inexperience was holding me back from a 20 plus fish day. Which by the way, a couple of guys caught over 20 fish. My inexperience also led me to the hook up of over 10 blue sharks. I think I must have farmed 8 albacore and 2 more that must have been larger size fish that burned drag for a solid 10 seconds and then just popped off.

Hats off to Justin (2nd capt.)Super cool guy, he let me use his 20lb set up after my 30 and 25 lb rods just were not getting bit. The Admiral is the best boat I have been on. The crew and the boat were a smooth running team. Great attitudes, Quality accommodations. This boat is a step above the rest.

Get out there now! On the way back we left a bait ball that was 20 feet across, with some very happy albacore. We fished 85 + miles out, and well worth the trip.

Whoa, unreal fishing! Thanks for the report on the trip. That is the best count I have ever heard for one boat on one day. Unreal.

Nice job James. You'll be eating tuna for weeks. Let me know if you take another mid-week trip and I can probably get off of work!

Sorry I didn't make it to the restaurant Monday but I had to go back to work.

There were 27 ppl on the boat.

We also got bit on the way home on the hand lines. (so cool)

Mr. Tree, Go right now!, seriously; Go right now

I can be ready to go again after the 25 of this month.......

I heard the albacore just keep getting bigger through out the season.

BTW, Does any body know why this is?
Are they the same fish, just bigger?
Or does it just take longer for the bigger fish to come in range?

PS do NOT forget the megabait jigs
The hot patterns looked like a little bonitos and the other one looked like a baby dorado. They were biting the larger(heavier) size.

My hands hurt, and for some reason it feels good. AWE YA
