You must have a life jacket aboard and a light if you plan to tube at night.

Some harbors don't allow float tubes.

They're not laws but a whistle, a compass, and atleast a pound of lead and 100' of 50+# line for emergency anchoring, are all good ideas. Like the life preserver, you hope you never have to have it, but it's good to have it, just in case.

A cell phone in a zip bag is good or better yet a handheld VHF radio if going any distance offshore. You can hail a boat or the CG if needed with it.
