LAST EDITED ON Dec-03-00 AT 10:53 PM (PST) Hey guys, I'm super amped right now, I'm practically shaking, but I'll try to type the best I can... For those of you who don't know, me and amish Ed were planning an offshore float tubing expedition next summer. We were going to see if we could film it somehow, and I talked to Michael Fowlkes (producer/host of Inside Sportfishing) just to see if he'd be interested in something like that. He said he'd been planning on doing a couple float tube shows, but wanted to start off filming inshore, then maybe an island show, and then the kelp paddy madness. Well, I told him about some of the float tubing we do up here, and he wants to film a few of us catching halibut, or wsb, or calicos or whatever. Anybody interested? I'm supposed to round up the troops, and find a decent bite sometime next summer and give Michael a ring, and he'll jet up here with the camera. So, any of you regulars of the board wanna be on tv??? I'd like to keep the numbers relatively low, I don't really want to have 30 float tubes bobbin around, but like 10 or so would be just fine. If you guys haven't seen the show, it's awesome. The best fishing show on tv by far. It's won a bunch of awards and stuff, check out http://www.insidesportfishing.com It's almost strictly a west coast show, primarily long range and tuna, on the excel and stuff like that. Sweet show. It's usually on on Sundays at like 11 am or something on fox sports west, and again on tuesday at 3:30. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Who's in??? -Brian

Oh you know I'm all over that. That would be great to share how saltwater tubers can get into decent inshore fish. Offshore stuff would be outrageous! Keep me posted.

Good job Brian. What about butts in SB and Spotties in Newport? Whatever happens should prove fun. Gotta get the offshore stuff done though, with or with out a professional cameraman. I have a digital camera and Final Cut Pro, I can edit a pretty decent movie. No fame, but good to show the grandkids.

You may want to double think a bait receiver show or at least contact the harbor patrol before hand. They give us enough trouble when there's only a few tubes out there. 10 or more tubes along with a camera crew might be too much for them. Not to mention it might be kind of a pain to keep having to move all the tubes and camera crew out of the way everytime a boat came through. A big specticle like that would be just the insentive they would need to restrict fishing in the harbor - especially if something bad happened. There are a few harbors down south that don't allow fishing - I would hate to see that happen in Santa Barbara.

Pete, I was going to talk to the harbor patrol as well as dfg before hand. Everyone participating would be required to carry a flashlight, life jacket, license, and net. The camera boat would be like behind us, over by that buoy, or on the other end, by the other buoy, and maybe they could sneak into the channel when the coast was clear, but we'd definitely have to stay out of the channel for most of the time. I have no problem with that, cause you can chuck those huge swimbaits far enough anyway, you don't need to kick around that much. Like I said, the harbor would be IDEAL. If for some reason it won't work out, either because of harbor patrol, or the fishing or whatever, I've got those other two ideas, and more... -Brian

I agree the harbor would be the easiest place to predict a good bite and film some nice fish (assuming the seabass come in like they did this year).

Hey I've just started tubing and kayaking in the SB area when I came to up here to UCSB but by next summer I plan on being quite schooled in my new local waters. I'll go if ya want me.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-00 AT 02:00 AM (PST) Brian, how could you even think that I'd decline to fish this one. Just another excuse to get wet. Besides, how can the wife argue with the possibilities of fame and fortune.
