#11932, "Final Cabo San Lucas report"

Results for my son on the second day (4/24) out on a Solmar 28' were different from my first report. On 4/24 it was very difficult keeping fish from breaking off in the rocks. Many were lost in the rocks even using the loaner tuna type gear that is heavier than my son's norcal deepwater lingcod gear. He landed only one 13 lb pargo. One marlin was hooked but it came unbuttoned. Live mackerel was strongly recommended by the crew, so that is what was used to make them happy ($2.00 each?) and because the live bait was getting bit very well.

In several days of surfcasting from the beach at the Solmar Resort many Sierras were lost, and he only landed 6 Jack Crevalle from 2 to 18 lbs. Major lure was a Ranger, bought at Minerva's in Cabo San Lucas.

Total filets brought home weighed 60 lbs.

A word to the wise. If you are flying back to LAX from Mexico as a stopover, not a final return destination, pack your fillets in a hardsided cooler, not a foam cooler. Apparently luggage and coolers often arrive from LAX to your final destination the next day, so filets in a foam cooler may start to thaw before they arrive at your residence. This can happen even though LAX supposedly stores coolers in a freezer between flights.
