Got to the beach around 7:30 and caught some nice sand crabs including a huge ripe softshell that was 1.5 inches long. I threw lures for 30minutes, got no halibut bites so changed to the bait set-up. Water was brown and there was a fair amount of kelp around. Got bites right away on the bait. Was breaking off 4 - lb on the hookset so I lightened the drag and connected to a shovelnose around 2 ft long. Got two hand-size barred perch. Was getting dark and still did not see any corbina. With time running out, I put on the Momma softshell I was saving and pitched it out with some hope.

Got a two foot smoothhound on it.

2 perch
1 shovelnose
1 smooth-hound
all released.
